Fatal Crash in Newport Leads to Multiple Arrests

Three individuals have been detained following a collision in Newport that resulted in the deaths of two males.

Emergency services responded to Aberthaw Road, Newport, early on Thursday after a crash involving a BMW and a motorbike occurred.

Two males, believed to be the motorbike's driver and pillion passenger, were declared deceased at the scene by paramedics. The BMW reportedly fled before police arrived.

Details of Arrests and Investigation

An 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 24-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Police have stated that specially trained officers will provide support to the families throughout the ongoing investigation.

Emergency Response

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed that the service was called to the scene shortly after 01:30 BST on Thursday.

Two emergency ambulances were dispatched, supported by two Cymru High Acuity Response Units and an operations manager.

Advanced critical care was provided by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service via a Wales Air Ambulance charity car.
