SNP Maintains Political Control in North East Scotland
The Scottish National Party (SNP) has successfully retained its political influence across the north east of Scotland in the recent elections.
Karen Adam secured victory in Banffshire and Buchan Coast, overcoming a strong challenge from Reform UK by a slim margin of 364 votes.
Additionally, SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn won a seat in the Scottish Parliament by capturing the Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine constituency.
The SNP also held onto the constituencies of Aberdeen Central, Aberdeen Donside, and Aberdeenshire East. Meanwhile, the Scottish Conservatives retained Aberdeenshire West.

Historic Shift in the Northern Isles
One of the most notable results on Friday was in the Northern Isles, where the Scottish Liberal Democrats lost their traditional stronghold seat of Shetland to the SNP.
The SNP candidate Hannah Mary Goodlad defeated Liberal Democrat Emma Macdonald. Shetland had been represented by the Liberal Party and later the Liberal Democrats since Jo Grimond's election in 1950.
In contrast, the Orkney Islands seat was the first to declare and was successfully held by Liberal Democrat Liam McArthur, who achieved a record-breaking 72% vote share, the highest in Holyrood's history.

Analysis: Reform UK Nearly Captures Banffshire and Buchan Coast
The SNP had previously described Banffshire and Buchan Coast as a "knife edge" contest, a prediction that proved accurate.
Reform UK's Conrad Ritchie came very close to unseating Karen Adam, with the SNP narrowly winning by just 364 votes. This was a strong performance by Reform, with Ritchie reportedly campaigning vigorously in the area.
The coastal constituency is known as the heart of Scotland's fishing industry and continues to have a significant base of pro-Brexit voters.
In her victory speech, Karen Adam sought to be inclusive and questioned the reasons behind many constituents' support for Reform UK, a question that traditional parties are likely to continue exploring.
"It was a very close result for me in Banffshire and Buchan Coast. I am really grateful that I have been elected again as MSP," Adam told BBC Scotland News following her narrow win.
She added, "People want to see change on the ground, especially with issues like high food and energy prices. I want to open my door [to constituents], say 'I am here to listen'."
Adam stated that she intends to focus on the oil and gas and fishing industries.

Other Constituency Results
In Aberdeen Donside, SNP candidate Jackie Dunbar won with 38.6% of the vote, totaling 11,760 votes, a decrease of 13% from previous results. She defeated Reform UK's Claudia Leith, who received 7,029 votes.
Jack Middleton of the SNP secured Aberdeen Central with 44.1% of the vote, defeating Labour's Jenny Laing.
In Aberdeenshire East, SNP candidate Gillian Martin saw the party's vote share fall by 11.3%, but still won with 11,624 votes, narrowly defeating Conservative Douglas Lumsden, who received 10,681 votes.
Conservatives Hold Aberdeenshire West
The Scottish Conservatives retained Aberdeenshire West, with Alexander Burnett winning 15,897 votes, representing 42.9% of the vote. He defeated SNP candidate Fatima Joji, who received 10,113 votes.
Burnett described himself as "exhausted" but "thrilled" after a lengthy campaign.
"To win again is a huge honour," he said.
He indicated that funding for local services would be among his priorities.
Burnett also noted that Reform UK's vote share had influenced the SNP's ability to win seats elsewhere.
