Skier Dies Following Rescue on Nevis Range
A skier has died in hospital after being rescued from the Nevis range in the Scottish Highlands. The man sustained injuries after a fall on Aonach Mor at approximately 14:00 on Tuesday.
Police Scotland confirmed that the skier, whose identity has not been disclosed, passed away the following day.
"There are no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
Multiple Rescues in Challenging Conditions
The injured skier was one of six individuals rescued during four separate incidents on and around Ben Nevis, two of which involved avalanches.
Three of these rescues occurred simultaneously, beginning on Tuesday evening and concluding early Wednesday morning, amid deep snow and difficult weather conditions.
The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team assisted a walker who was unable to descend Ben Nevis. Additionally, a coastguard helicopter was deployed to aid two climbers stranded on Aonach Mor.
Furthermore, nine volunteers from Lochaber MRT rescued two climbers from Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis.
Weather Impact on Rescue Operations
Lochaber MRT reported that Tuesday began as a "beautiful day," but gale-force winds struck the area in the evening and overnight.
These strong winds caused significant snow movement across the mountains, complicating rescue efforts.
