Stabbings Occur After Arsenal Victory Parade

Six individuals were stabbed in north London on Sunday evening following Arsenal’s Premier League victory parade, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The Met reported that the non-fatal stabbings happened after the majority of the crowds had dispersed. A total of 24 people were arrested in connection with incidents that took place during and after the celebrations.

One man in his 20s was transported to hospital in a life-threatening condition but has since been stabilised. The police confirmed that most victims sustained injuries that were not serious.

Victory Parade and Police Deployment

Hundreds of thousands of Arsenal supporters gathered around the Emirates Stadium to celebrate the club’s first league title win in 22 years. Over 500 officers were deployed to manage the event and maintain public order.

Among the arrests, ten individuals were detained on suspicion of assaulting police officers. The Met also reported that one officer suffered a slash wound to the hand, and another was struck on the head by an object thrown from the crowd.

Additional Arrests and Incidents

Three people were arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. Other charges included grievous bodily harm, being drunk and disorderly, obstructing police, affray, and breaching a dispersal order.

Furthermore, three arrests were made related to alleged drug offences, including one person also suspected of possessing a knife. Damage was reported to four police vans parked on Theberton Street in Islington, with broken lights and dents noted.

Emergency Services Response

Emergency services responded to multiple incidents throughout the day linked to the celebrations. The fire brigade rescued approximately 75 people who became trapped at height after climbing onto rooftops and other structures to view the parade.

The brigade also attended a small fire at a hotel, believed to have been caused by a flare.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigations

Following patterns of violence in north London, police authorised additional stop-and-search powers overnight.

"As the evening progressed and the majority of the crowds made their way home, there was sadly further violence, including gang-related incidents," said Commander Stuart Bell, who led the Met’s public order operation for the parade. "Officers were swiftly on scene to each stabbing and investigations are ongoing."

Ch Supt Jason Stewart, responsible for policing in Islington, stated that officers would continue patrols in the area as investigations proceed.

"Our officers are back out on patrol today to provide visible reassurance and our investigation teams are working hard to identify offenders and bring them to justice," he said.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that inquiries into all six stabbings remain ongoing.
