Multi-Vehicle Collision Closes M1 in Leicestershire

A "serious" multi-vehicle crash has led to the closure of the M1 motorway in Leicestershire in both directions.

Emergency services responded to the incident on the northbound carriageway between junctions 23 and 23A at approximately 19:30 BST on Tuesday.

National Highways East Midlands characterized the crash as serious and reported that it involved a vehicle fire.

"The crash is serious and has resulted in a vehicle fire," National Highways East Midlands stated.

Initially, the northbound carriageway and one lane of the southbound carriageway were closed; however, the motorway has since been fully closed in both directions.
