Police Investigate Religious Group Over Modern Slavery Allegations
Police investigations are ongoing following raids involving over 500 officers targeting a religious group in Crewe amid allegations of modern slavery.
On Wednesday, ten individuals were arrested during three coordinated raids conducted by Cheshire Police. The investigation also encompasses claims of serious sexual offences and forced marriage linked to the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light (Arpol) group.
Raids were executed at Webb House and properties located on Nantwich Road and Badger Avenue, all owned by the group. Arpol was founded at the start of the century with roots in Shia Islam; however, its beliefs have been rejected by mainstream Shiism.
Earlier in the day, approximately 50 people gathered outside the Middlewich custody centre, with police officers present nearby.

Officers remain at the raid locations conducting further searches and providing support to local residents affected by the operation.
The police force stated it was made aware last month of allegations dating back to 2023. The inquiry focuses on one woman who was a member of the group at the time the offences are alleged to have occurred.
Currently, the group has about 150 members based in Crewe. Police have implemented safeguarding measures for those impacted by the investigation.
Details of Arrests and Operation
The arrests on Wednesday occurred around 08:50 BST and involved officers from neighbouring forces assisting Cheshire Police.
In addition to the ten arrested in connection with the investigation, 13 further individuals were detained on suspicion of public order offences, which are unrelated to the main inquiry.
Background on the Arpol Group
Arpol asserts its origins in Shiism or Shia Islam; however, mainstream Muslim groups have long distanced themselves from the organization.
The group should not be confused with the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, commonly known as Ahmadis, which was founded on the Asian subcontinent and maintains a significant presence in the UK.
Community and Police Response
Police continue to work at the scene to ensure thorough investigations and community safety.
