Eluned Morgan's Campaign Slip-Up

Eluned Morgan, the First Minister of Wales, mistakenly said "pleidleisiwch Plaid Cymru" (vote Plaid Cymru) while campaigning for the Senedd election, just a week before voting day.

The leader of Welsh Labour made the error in Tenby on Thursday.

At the conclusion of a speech to party members, she said in Welsh,

"Pleidleisiwch Plaid Cymru"
before immediately correcting herself,
"Plaid Lafur"
.

Earlier, she had stated in English,

"Vote Welsh Labour in the election next week."

Election Context

Last week, Ms Morgan stated that Plaid Cymru would win the Senedd election in her constituency, and that she was at risk of losing her seat.

Voters in Wales will elect 96 Members of the Senedd across 16 constituencies on Thursday, 7 May.
