Heating Oil Support for North Lincolnshire Households
Hundreds of households in North Lincolnshire that depend on heating oil will receive £300 in support to assist with rising heating and energy expenses, according to the district council.
Unlike domestic fuel users of gas and electricity, whose prices are regulated and capped by Ofgem, households using heating oil do not benefit from such price caps.
Council leader Rob Waltham emphasized the importance of inclusive support, stating:
"Residents should not be left behind simply because they are off the gas grid."
In March, the government announced approximately £50 million in support aimed at households struggling with high heating oil costs, a consequence of sharp price increases linked to the Iran war.
Waltham further commented on the impact of these costs:
"We know many households have faced significant increases in heating oil costs and for some residents, particularly older people and those on fixed incomes, those rises have caused real concern.
While some councils have offered very limited support, we have been as generous as possible with the funding allocated to North Lincolnshire because we know the pressure many rural households are under."
The council indicated that eligible households who had previously registered their interest are currently being contacted with additional information. However, applications remain open for those who have not yet applied.
A council spokesperson confirmed that successful applicants will receive the £300 payment directly into their bank accounts.
