Police Arrests in Religious Group Inquiry
"Several people" have been arrested in connection with serious allegations, including modern slavery, within a religious group based in Cheshire, according to police reports.
Over 500 officers took part in raids conducted at three separate locations as part of an investigation into the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, located in Crewe.
Cheshire Police stated that they were alerted last month to allegations involving serious sexual offences, forced marriage, and modern slavery, all reported to have occurred during 2023.
Numerous police vehicles and ambulances were observed at King George V playing fields, and there were reports of road closures in the Victoria Avenue area near Queens Park.
Detectives have been searching Webb House and are collaborating with the local authority to support residents and ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are implemented.
"Today's operation is the outcome of a detailed and robust investigation," said Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley.
Increased Police Presence and Community Assurance
"While those arrested are members of the group, I want to make clear that this is not an investigation into the religion, this is an investigation into the serious allegations which have been reported to us.
We treat all reports of sexual assault seriously and are committed to doing all we can to achieve justice."
Chief Superintendent Wrigley further stated that the police force is "working closely" with partner organizations to provide support to members of the group.
"I would like to reassure residents that there is no risk to the wider community, and patrols have been stepped up to provide reassurance to local residents," Wrigley added.
"I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer."
Authorities have encouraged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact the police.
