Driver Sentenced for Assaulting Police Officer in Edinburgh

Lewis Mackie, aged 23, has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison following an incident on 6 December 2024, where he struck a police officer while driving a stolen vehicle in Edinburgh.

The collision occurred on Dumbryden Gardens after police attempted to stop the stolen car. The officer involved sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment but was discharged prior to the discovery of the abandoned vehicle.

At the High Court in Inverness on Wednesday, Mackie received a driving disqualification lasting 52 months. Additionally, he was issued a non-harassment order prohibiting any contact with the injured police officer indefinitely.

The custodial sentence will be backdated to 21 September 2025, and a 12-month supervised release order has also been imposed as part of the sentencing.
