Fatal Fall During Tower Block Fire in North Lanarkshire

A man has died after falling from a window amid a fire at a tower block in North Lanarkshire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) responded to reports of a fire on the 12th floor of a building located on Shields Drive, Motherwell, at approximately 22:08 on Thursday.

According to Police Scotland, a man was observed falling from a window during the incident, which has since been brought under control. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Nine fire engines along with specialist resources were dispatched to the flats to manage the situation.

Official Statements and Ongoing Investigation

SFRS area commander Stephen Nesbit commented on the incident:

"Sadly, one male passed away at the scene.
Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends, and wider community at this difficult time.
The fire has now been extinguished however one fire appliance remains on scene to dampen down any hotspots."

Nesbit further stated that a joint investigation with Police Scotland will now be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
