Kevin Spacey Reaches Settlement with Accusers
Kevin Spacey has reached an out-of-court settlement with three men who had filed lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault. The civil cases, which were scheduled for trial at the High Court later this year, have now been put on hold following the agreement.
The allegations against Spacey span from 2000 to 2013. The Oscar-winning actor, aged 66, denies all accusations of misconduct. In a separate criminal trial in 2023, he was acquitted of nine sexual offence charges.
Details of the Accusations
Two of the men who accused Spacey during the criminal proceedings also initiated civil cases at the High Court. One claimant, identified only as LNP, alleged that Spacey
"deliberately assaulted"him approximately 12 times between 2000 and 2005.
Another accuser, referred to as GHI, stated that he met Spacey through a workshop at London's Old Vic theatre. He claimed to have
"suffered psychiatric damage and financial loss"following an assault in 2008. Spacey served as the artistic director of the Old Vic from 2004 to 2013.
The third accuser, Ruari Cannon, has waived his right to anonymity. Cannon was performing in Tennessee Williams' play Sweet Bird of Youth at the Old Vic in 2013 and alleged that Spacey groped him at a party after the show's press night. Cannon participated in the 2024 documentary Spacey Unmasked. Spacey responded to Cannon's allegation by calling it
"ridiculous and it never happened".
Legal Proceedings and Additional Evidence
At a hearing earlier this month, lawyers representing the claimants requested that evidence from seven additional witnesses alleging similar abusive conduct be admitted if the case proceeded to trial. The hearing also revealed that Cannon had reached a settlement with the Old Vic theatre.
Details regarding the terms of the settlements between Spacey and his accusers have not been disclosed.
