Delays in Inverness Raigmore Interchange Improvements
Enhancements to one of the busiest roundabouts in Inverness, the Raigmore Interchange, are now expected to be completed approximately three months later than initially scheduled.
The project involves the installation of new traffic signals and pedestrian access improvements at the interchange.
Work commenced in January and was originally planned to conclude this month. However, trunk roads management company Bear Scotland has indicated that completion may be delayed until late July or early August.
The delay has been attributed to emergency repairs on a gas main at the site, which have "severely disrupted" progress on the improvement works.
The Raigmore Interchange consists of a large roundabout with a flyover and connects the A9, A96, and B865 roads, the latter serving as a route into the city.

Urgent Gas Main Repairs Impact Project Timeline
In February, utility company SGN issued a warning that thousands of homes in Inverness could face gas supply interruptions if a section of pipeline at the Raigmore Interchange was not replaced.
SGN had planned to begin reinforcing pipes at the interchange in March. However, engineers identified a section requiring urgent replacement, estimating the repair would take approximately 15 weeks.
Bear Scotland expressed its intention to complete the interchange improvements as soon as possible.
"Whilst there has been a delay with the delivery of traffic signals equipment for the project, our programme of works has been severely disrupted by urgent emergency gas main replacement works which have been outwith our control."
The company is currently reviewing its construction schedule in coordination with SGN.
"Open excavations, for the gas main works, in the vicinity of the roundabout are currently preventing various key tasks involved in the completion of the project, including the installation and commissioning of new street lighting, traffic signs and permanent traffic signals, as well as road resurfacing works.
All works are expected to be completed by late July/early August, with this date brought forward where possible."
Torvean Swing Bridge Closed Due to Hydraulic Oil Leak
Separately, an oil leak has affected the operation of the Torvean Swing Bridge over the Caledonian Canal in Inverness.
The bridge was closed to road traffic early last week following a fault in its hydraulic system.
Highland Council reported that the hydraulic oil used in the system has been contained and has not contaminated the canal.
The oil is an eco-friendly biodegradable type that is not readily available and will need to be sourced before repairs can proceed.
The council stated its aim to reopen the bridge as soon as the hydraulic oil can be procured and replaced by engineers.
The nearby Tomnahurich Swing Bridge has remained open to traffic during this period.
