Flood Damage Forces Langlands School Closure

A special school in southern Scotland, Langlands School, located within the Northwest Community Campus in Dumfries, has suffered "extensive damage" due to flooding and is not expected to reopen before the end of the week.

The school was closed on Monday following the discovery of a "significant water leak." Dumfries and Galloway Council clarified that the issue was not caused by recent heavy rainfall but was instead due to "an issue with a water tank."

"It is likely the school will remain closed for the remainder of the week to allow for repairs to be carried out,"

the council stated.

About Langlands School

Langlands School caters to secondary-aged children with severe and complex additional support needs and serves a broad catchment area across Dumfries and Galloway. Historically, the school operated from its own separate site off Lovers Walk in Dumfries before relocating to the new campus on Alloway Road in 2018.

According to information on the council's website, Langlands School currently has an enrollment of approximately 30 pupils.

Ongoing Communication and Safety Measures

The council also noted that the headteacher is maintaining communication with parents and carers to keep them informed about the situation. The school will only reopen after "extensive testing and repairs" have been completed to ensure safety and functionality.
