Van Driver Sentenced for Fatal Collision in Central London
A van driver who struck and killed a university student in central London by driving at speed has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Aalia Mahomed, aged 20, was in her second year studying physics and philosophy at King's College London when she died at the scene of the collision on the Strand on 18 March 2025.
The Old Bailey court heard that Christopher Jackson, 27, from Southampton, drove a van into a metal gate, dislodging it from its hinges, before the vehicle collided with the bench where Aalia was seated.
In February, Jackson pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
