Bus Fire Incident at Glenrothes Election Count
A bus caught fire outside the Michael Woods Sports Centre in Glenrothes, Fife, during an election count.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received a report of the vehicle fire at approximately 13:50.
The driver reportedly escaped just moments before the fire fully developed. An eyewitness described the double-decker bus as "gutted," but confirmed that the election count in Glenrothes continued without disruption.
SFRS confirmed there were no casualties. Two fire crews remained on site to dampen down remaining hot spots.
One entrance to the Michael Woods Centre was closed as firefighters worked to extinguish the bus fire.
Video footage captured the dramatic scene, showing large flames engulfing the Stagecoach vehicle with thick, dark grey smoke rising into the air.
A spokesperson for SFRS stated: "Operations Control immediately mobilised two appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a double decker bus which was well alight.
There were no reported casualties and crews remain on scene dampening down hot spots."
The road near the incident remains closed by police, with traffic being diverted accordingly.
A Stagecoach spokesperson confirmed that one of their vehicles was involved in a "thermal incident."
They added: "The safety and wellbeing of our customers and colleagues is always our absolute priority and we're pleased to confirm that all customers and the driver were safely evacuated and are fully accounted for.
We will carry out a full internal investigation into the cause of the incident, although it is too early at this stage to determine the circumstances involved."
