Funding Appeal Amid Eviction Threat
Redhead Rescues Animal Sanctuary, located in Finedon, Northamptonshire, has announced the urgent need to raise £150,000 to purchase the land it currently occupies. Without securing this funding, the sanctuary faces the possibility of having to relocate after its landlord put the site up for sale.
The sanctuary operates as a self-funded facility managed entirely by volunteers. The land is essential for assessing and exercising rescue dogs, as well as providing grazing space for field animals.

Sanctuary Founder Comments on Situation
Teresa Underwood, founder of Redhead Rescues, emphasized the importance of the land to the sanctuary’s operations but acknowledged that the team would seek alternative arrangements if the fundraising goal is not met.
"It would be a huge loss,"
Underwood expressed on the sanctuary’s online appeal page.
Fundraising Events Planned
To support the fundraising efforts, the sanctuary is organizing a dog show and car boot sale scheduled for 24 May at the Woodford Community and Sports Club near Thrapston. These events aim to generate additional income to assist with the purchase of the land.
Recent Investments and Operational Challenges
Recently, the sanctuary invested £9,000 in fencing to enhance security for the animals under its care. Speaking with Bernie Keith on BBC Radio Northampton, Underwood described the demanding nature of her work, stating she is engaged seven days a week, around the clock.
"We've always got too many [animals],"
she said, highlighting the constant influx of animals requiring assistance.
Medical Care and Foster Home Needs
Most animals admitted to the sanctuary require medical treatment, including neutering and surgery, which imposes significant financial burdens. The sanctuary also faces a pressing need for new foster homes to accommodate the animals.
The ongoing cost of living crisis has contributed to an increase in pet surrenders, as rising veterinary expenses become unaffordable for many owners. Donations and proceeds from charity events are primarily allocated to veterinary bills, which have escalated substantially.
"The bank account [is] pretty much empty,"
Underwood stated, underscoring the financial strain on the sanctuary.
