British Citizens Register Amid Middle East Tensions
A total of 102,000 British nationals have registered their presence in the Middle East with the UK government as Iranian strikes persist across the region.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper informed the BBC that approximately 300,000 British citizens are currently in Gulf countries, many of which have significant airspace closures.
She noted that many of those affected include holidaymakers, transit passengers, and business visitors.
Foreign Office officials have indicated that no evacuation is currently planned; however, the government is preparing for various scenarios should commercial flights remain suspended.
British nationals residing in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Palestine, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates have been encouraged to register their presence to receive timely updates from the Foreign Office.
The government has previously implemented registration schemes to provide urgent information during international crises, but the scale of registrations and the number of countries involved in this instance are unprecedented.

Government Advises Caution and Preparedness
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Cooper described the situation as "deeply stressful" for those impacted.
"We are in close contact, for example, with the travel industry, with airline companies and airports and also with the governments in the region."
"But we will need to provide updates for people as we go along... That's why we're encouraging people to register their presence so we know where they are so we can get information to them swiftly."
She urged individuals to adhere to local guidance, which in most countries recommends sheltering in place.
Regarding potential evacuation plans, Cooper stated:
"We are in close contact, for example, with the travel industry, with airline companies and airports and also with the governments in the region."
She added that in previous comparable situations, the government has sought to coordinate with airlines to enable citizens to return home through normal flight operations.
Flight Disruptions and Regional Impact
Nearly 50% of flights scheduled to depart from London Heathrow to the Middle East on Sunday were cancelled, according to analytics firm Cirium.
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have cancelled or rerouted certain flights, while Qatar Airways announced on Monday morning that all its flights remain suspended.
