Iran Criticizes US Military Actions
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of engaging in a "reckless military adventure" whenever a diplomatic resolution is possible.
"Iranians would 'never bow to pressure'," Araghchi stated in a post on X, following mutual accusations between the two nations over attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.
He questioned whether these actions were a crude pressure tactic or the result of a spoiler misleading US President Donald Trump into another difficult situation.
"Is it a crude pressure tactic? Or the result of a spoiler once again duping POTUS [US President Donald Trump] into another quagmire?"
Ceasefire and Diplomatic Efforts
Despite the confrontations, President Trump affirmed that the ceasefire remains intact. This ceasefire aims to facilitate negotiations to end the conflict initiated by the US and Israel in February. Iran is expected to respond to US proposals on Friday, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"I hope it's a serious offer, I really do," Rubio said during a visit to Italy.
Recent Military Accusations
On Thursday, the US Central Command (Centcom) accused Iran of launching missiles, drones, and small boats in an "unprovoked attack" against three US warships.
Conversely, Iran's top military command claimed that the US targeted an Iranian oil tanker and another vessel near the Strait of Hormuz and conducted aerial attacks on several coastal areas.
Strategic Importance of the Strait of Hormuz
Iran has exercised control over the Strait of Hormuz and has targeted US allies in the Gulf as retaliation for US and Israeli attacks. Approximately 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passes through this critical waterway, and any blockage has caused prices to surge.
President Trump initiated, then paused, a US military operation intended to free about 2,000 vessels stranded in the area since February. Additionally, the US maintains a naval blockade of Iranian ports to pressure Tehran into accepting US terms.
New Incident Reported
A new escalation occurred on Friday near the waters of Minab, where a cargo vessel was struck and caught fire.
"Ten injured sailors have been transferred to hospital, and local groups and search teams are trying to learn the fate of the other sailors," Mohammad Radmehr, an official in the southern Hormozgan province, told Iranian state news agency Mehr.
Regional Responses
The United Arab Emirates, a US ally affected by Iranian attacks, reported on Friday that its air defense systems intercepted two ballistic missiles and three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Iran, resulting in three moderate injuries.
US President's Statement
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that the US had destroyed multiple small boats, missiles, and drones, asserting significant damage was inflicted on the Iranian attackers.
"Just like we knocked them out again today, we'll knock them out a lot harder, and a lot more violently, in the future, if they don't get their Deal signed, FAST!"
