Family Concerned for Safety Amid Regional Conflict

The family of a British couple imprisoned in Iran have expressed deep concern for their safety following Israeli and US military strikes on the country.

Lindsay and Craig Foreman, both aged 53, were sentenced to 10 years in prison after their arrest in January 2025 during a global motorcycle journey.

The couple, originally from East Sussex, are currently held in Tehran's Evin prison. They were detained and convicted on espionage charges, which they have denied.

Lindsay's son, Joe Bennett, who resides in Folkestone, Kent, stated:

"We were extremely relieved to hear from our parents this morning and yesterday but remain incredibly worried about their safety.
Our hearts go out to the people of Iran and all others in the region who were impacted by the bombings this weekend."

A spokesperson for the family added:

"We are very concerned about the safety of Lindsay and Craig who were still in Evin prison today during the bombing of Tehran.
The family did manage to speak to them this morning and at that time they were unhurt albeit very alert to, and concerned about the danger around them."

Government Reactions

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has previously described the couple's sentence as "completely appalling and totally unjustifiable," pledging that the government will "pursue this case relentlessly with the Iranian government until we see Craig and Lindsay Foreman safely returned."

Shadow Foreign Secretary Dame Priti Patel condemned the prison term as "disgraceful" and urged Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to "use all available leverage" to secure their release.

The sentence was officially confirmed to the families last month.
