Rescue Efforts Underway Following Fishing Boat Sinking

A rescue operation is currently in progress after a fishing boat was reported to be sinking in Carlingford Lough.

The Irish Coast Guard received an emergency call from a member of the public at 12:30 BST, indicating that a boat was in distress near Greencastle Point, County Down.

One individual has been rescued from the sunken vessel by a local boat and was subsequently transferred to paramedics at Greenore harbour for medical attention.

Efforts continue to recover another person believed to be on the vessel.

The Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Belfast is overseeing the response to the incident.

The Irish Coast Guard's helicopter, Rescue 116, based in Dublin, along with the Greenore Coast Guard Unit, are actively involved at the scene.
