Closure of Pont y Borth for Safety Inspection
Pont y Borth remains closed for the second consecutive day to carry out an inspection following concerns that an overweight vehicle crossed the bridge on Wednesday morning.
Heavy traffic was reported on both sides of the Menai Strait on Tuesday after a similar incident.
This marks the third time in about a week that the bridge has had to close for safety checks.
The councils of Anglesey and Gwynedd have issued an apology for any inconvenience caused and remind drivers of the weight restrictions on the bridge during repair works.
Bridge Closure Details and Repair Work
On Wednesday, the councils stated:
"Following concerns that an overweight vehicle crossed the bridge this morning, the road has been closed to carry out a precautionary inspection.
We will reopen the bridge as soon as it is confirmed safe to do so.
We apologise for the inconvenience and remind all users that only vehicles under 7.5 tonnes are permitted to use Pont y Borth."
Additional information notes that Pont y Borth will close completely again for 28 hours to protect cables, with repair work expected to continue until spring 2027.
