Osprey Swallows Fish Hook in Nest
An osprey is under close observation after swallowing a fish hook attached to a trout. Telyn, a 13-year-old female breeding osprey at the Dyfi Osprey Project in mid Wales, ingested the hook, which was likely caught by her current mate, Idris.
There are only five pairs of these large, fish-eating birds of prey in Wales, according to the conservation project, which provides live streams of the ospreys and their three newborn chicks.

Monitoring and Conservation Efforts
The Dyfi Osprey Project shared footage on Friday showing Telyn swallowing the fishing tackle but stated there was little intervention possible beyond monitoring her behavior closely.
"It's now three days since Telyn swallowed the fish hook which we believed to be the non-barbed variety."
"This could be crucial," the conservation group said on its Facebook page on Monday.
"We haven't seen Telyn honk anything up, but it may well have come out the other side," they added.
After 48 hours, no adverse reactions have been observed in Telyn, and her three chicks, approximately two weeks old, remain unaffected.
Osprey Population in the UK
The osprey population in the UK is gradually recovering after the species disappeared from the country in 1916 due to persecution, habitat loss, and egg collecting, according to the Dyfi Osprey Project.
The birds are now legally protected, and osprey conservation projects across the UK collaborate and share knowledge to support the gradual increase in osprey numbers.
