France Issues Red Heatwave Alerts Amid Rising Temperatures
France has issued red heatwave alerts for approximately half of the country, including Paris, for Monday as a heatwave drives temperatures toward record highs.
On Sunday, temperatures in the southwestern city of Bordeaux reached 40°C (104°F).

Alcohol Ban Implemented During Fête de la Musique
In response to the extreme heat, French authorities have prohibited alcohol consumption in public spaces during the annual Fête de la Musique, a national music festival that attracts millions to the streets across the country.

"For all events organised by the state and its agencies, instructions have been given not to offer alcohol,"the office of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated.
The government explained that the alcohol restrictions aim
"to preserve emergency and healthcare services and allow medical staff to focus on caring for the most vulnerable".
Forecasts and Regional Alerts
Temperatures are expected to peak on Monday, with authorities warning that they could reach historic levels. The red alert encompasses much of western and central France, while numerous other regions remain under an orange alert.
The surge in temperatures is driven by hot air moving northward from the Sahara Desert, which is causing hot air to become trapped over western and central Europe.
Heatwave Impact Across Europe
Italian authorities have issued red alerts for eight cities on Sunday, including Bologna, Florence, Milan, and Turin. Meanwhile, Spain's weather agency has issued red and orange alerts in several regions and cautioned that temperatures could reach 40 degrees Celsius across large parts of the country.
Disruptions and Precautions in France
The heatwave, which has been intensifying over several days, has disrupted some government services in France, leading to the cancellation of dozens of trains and the suspension of classes.
France's weather service, Météo-France, indicated uncertainty regarding the duration of the heatwave, which is estimated to affect about three quarters of the population.
To assist Parisians and tourists in coping with the heat, authorities are keeping parks and gardens in the French capital open throughout the night.
