Evacuation and Security Response at Edinburgh Airport
Edinburgh Airport was evacuated following reports of a potentially suspicious package discovered at approximately 18:50 on Friday. Authorities have confirmed that the evacuation was a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.
Police have established a cordon around the airport, and several surrounding roads have been closed to facilitate the ongoing investigation. An explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team is currently on site to assess and manage the situation.
Officers involved in the operation have stated that inquiries are ongoing and have advised passengers to verify their flight status by contacting their respective airlines.
Passengers experienced significant disruption due to the airport closure. The airport's official Facebook page issued a statement addressing the situation:
"Due to reports of a potentially suspicious item, the airport has been evacuated while specialist teams investigate.

Emergency Services Involvement
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported that they were alerted at 20:44 to provide assistance with the operation. As of late Friday evening, three fire appliances and three specialist resources were present at the scene to support the response efforts.
