Parrot Found and Cared for at Dublin Airport
An Alexandrine parakeet found at Dublin Airport has been safely returned to its owner, following efforts by airport personnel and the public. The female parrot, nearly two years old, was discovered near Terminal One by airport police on Easter Sunday. She was temporarily nicknamed "Troy" by airport staff in honor of Republic of Ireland footballer Troy Parrott.

The bird was cared for at the airport police station, where she was provided with fruit, water, toys, and a temporary enclosure constructed by the Airport Police K9 unit. The owner, Gheorghe, was identified through the parrot's tag number and her response to her real name, Lola.
'Back Home with Her Pal'
On Tuesday, the airport confirmed via social media that Lola has been reunited with her owner and is now "back home with her pal." The parrot had formed strong bonds with the airport's social media team, who shared details about her personality and preferences. They noted that she enjoys watermelon and strawberries, is very vocal when not receiving attention, and was content with "Troy" remaining as her middle name.
"She seemed delighted her 'shift' was finally over,"
staff joked.
Airport's History with Parrot Incidents
Dublin Airport has previously experienced incidents involving parrots. In 2019, an African grey female parrot named Hugo was spotted taxiing on the main runway by a firefighter during a routine safety inspection and was later reunited with her owner.
Additionally, in August 2025, a "very chatty parrot who clearly wasn't booked on any flight" made a surprise appearance at the airport.
Last year, the airport humorously considered renaming itself "Troy Parrott Airport" following the Republic of Ireland striker's hat-trick against Hungary. The airport's social media team has continued to make this joke after subsequent Ireland matches.
