Triumphs at News and Documentary Emmy Awards

was among the prominent winners at the News and Documentary Emmy Awards held in New York on Wednesday.

The organization secured the award in the outstanding continuing coverage category (short form) for its comprehensive reports and live updates on last year's catastrophic earthquake in Myanmar, which resulted in thousands of deaths and numerous injuries.

This coverage reached millions globally through television broadcasts and online platforms. The category also featured notable competitors, including CNN's reporting from inside Iran and Gaza, as well as Scripps News's coverage of conflict in Haiti.

Exclusive Reporting Amidst Challenging Conditions

BBC's journalist Yogita Limaye was the first foreign correspondent to enter Myanmar undercover alongside colleagues following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, which affected regions as far as Thailand, China, and India.

Accepting the award on behalf of , senior executive producer Paul Danahar highlighted the Myanmar government's efforts to isolate the country from the world after the disaster.

"They shut it off to the world,"

he said, commending his team for their determination to enter Mandalay despite significant personal risks.

"They risked arrest, beatings and potential jail to tell a story to the world,"

Danahar added, emphasizing the importance of the journalism involved.

"This was real public service journalism. It was a story that the world doesn't tell very often.
I'm really proud of the BBC for funding it."

Hallie Jackson from NBC News, who presented the award, acknowledged the dedication of all nominees in the category.

"[They have] devoted countless hours and effort to making sure that we keep telling these stories,"

she remarked.

"There's an art to this. To sit across from a powerful person and to hold them to account, or to bring to bear expertise and experience that puts events into context, it is not easy - even though our nominees make it look that way."

Other winners on the first night of the awards ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P Rose Hall included ABC News and National Geographic.
