Meta Withdraws AI Image Generation Feature
Meta has abruptly removed a recently launched feature that enabled users to generate fake images using its artificial intelligence (AI) tool on Instagram. This feature was part of the broader rollout of Muse Image, an AI image generation tool introduced by Meta on Wednesday as a component of Meta AI, the company’s chatbot.
The feature permitted Meta AI users to tag public Instagram accounts and utilize content from those accounts to swiftly create AI-generated or modified images and content. However, the introduction of this capability quickly led to significant backlash.
In response to the criticism, Meta acknowledged that it had "missed the mark, so it’s no longer available."
“Our intent was to provide a useful creative tool and to give people control over whether their public content could be referenced in this way,” Meta added in its decision to pull the feature. “We've heard the feedback.”
When the feature was announced, Meta stated it was limited to Instagram, but indicated plans to expand AI features and integrations to WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger. Additionally, the company is developing an AI video tool.
