NASA Prepares for Artemis II Lunar Fly-Around Mission

NASA is gearing up for the historic launch of its first lunar fly-around mission in over five decades. Training for the Artemis II mission commenced shortly after the crew was announced in 2023, as stated by the mission's chief training officer, Jacki Mahaffey.

Much of the astronauts' preparation occurs within the Orion mission simulator located at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Here, the crew rehearses every phase of the flight, practices responses to potential contingencies, and conducts communication drills with Mission Control.

The simulator is designed to replicate the look, feel, and sounds of the actual Orion spacecraft, providing a realistic environment for the astronauts to train effectively.
