Inspectors Highlight Serious Concerns at Skye Care Home
Inspectors have expressed "significant concerns" regarding the quality of care at Home Farm, a care home in Portree on the Isle of Skye, which is currently operated by NHS Highland. The home was previously the site of a major Covid-19 outbreak.
NHS Highland, responsible for managing Home Farm, has been served with an improvement notice following the inspection. The health board has stated that it is taking immediate steps to resolve all issues identified by the inspectors.
Background and Capacity
In 2020, when Home Farm was run by HC One, a Covid-19 outbreak resulted in the deaths of at least 11 residents. The facility is registered to provide care for up to 35 individuals aged over 65.
Inspection Findings and Requirements
The Care Inspectorate's improvement notice outlines concerns related to leadership, staffing levels, and safety practices within the home. The notice mandates that these issues must be rectified by early July; failure to do so could result in the cancellation of the home's registration.
