Pam Bondi Diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer

Former US Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was removed from her position last month, has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

Her diagnosis was revealed shortly after President Donald Trump dismissed her from the role of the nation's top law enforcement officer, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

Bondi, aged 60, informed CBS that she is currently undergoing treatment, which included surgery performed a few weeks ago.

Despite her diagnosis, she continues to work and will be joining the White House's new advisory council on artificial intelligence, the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

Podcast host and former White House adviser Katie Miller shared on social media:

"Pam has been quietly kicking cancer's ass the last few weeks,"
adding that Bondi "has a heart of gold."

Thyroid Cancer Prognosis and Bondi's Current Role

Thyroid cancer has a five-year survival rate exceeding 98%, with most forms being treatable and permanently curable, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The specific stage of Bondi's cancer has not been disclosed.

Upon her departure from the Department of Justice in early April, Bondi expressed enthusiasm about transitioning to a role in the private sector. Her appointment to the president's advisory council marks the first public announcement of her professional activities following her tenure at the department.

Vice-President JD Vance issued a statement regarding Bondi's continued involvement:

"Pam has been an enormously valuable asset to the president's team, and I'm thrilled for her and for all of us that she's going to remain involved in confronting some of the most important issues the administration faces."

About the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology

President Trump established PCAST by executive order in January 2025, outlining its mission to:

"unite the brightest minds from academia, industry, and government to guide our Nation through this critical moment by charting a path forward for American leadership in science and technology."

The initial members of the council were announced in March 2026 and include prominent figures from the science and technology sectors such as Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Bondi's Political Loyalty and Upcoming Testimony

Bondi, known for her strong loyalty to Trump since his first term, is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Friday concerning her management of the Epstein files.

Both Bondi and Trump have faced bipartisan criticism regarding the Department of Justice's release of the Epstein files, with some Democratic lawmakers contending that significant documents were withheld from the public.
