Royal Mint Releases Spice Girls 30th Anniversary Coin
The Spice Girls have expressed pride as the Royal Mint issues an official coin commemorating 30 years since their debut, describing it as a "moment for girl power." The collectible £5 coin celebrates the release of their first single "Wannabe" and their album "Spice," both launched in 1996.
Fans eager to add the coin to their collections can purchase it starting Tuesday, with prices ranging from £18.50 to £10,535 for a 2oz gold proof £200 coin.

Band Statement and Legacy
"It's a huge honour for us to be celebrated by the Royal Mint."
The Spice Girls defined 1990s pop culture with their chart-topping hits, distinctive personalities, and the empowering slogan "girl power." Following the success of "Wannabe," the group released a series of hits including "2 Become 1," "Mama," "Who Do You Think You Are," "Spice Up Your Life," and "Viva Forever." In 1997, they expanded their influence by starring in the feature film "Spice World."
Design and Packaging
Artist Ffion Rees designed the coin, which features silhouettes of all five original members—Victoria Beckham, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell-Horner, and Melanie Brown—alongside their autographs.
For the first time in the Royal Mint's "music legends" collection, there are five distinct packaging designs for the uncirculated colour versions of the coins, each highlighting a different group member.
Each packaging design is limited to 15,000 coins worldwide, as confirmed by the Royal Mint.

Royal Mint and Band Comments
Lucy Mackenzie of the Royal Mint remarked,
"The Spice Girls didn't just dominate pop music, they defined the 90s... girl power is back."
The band also stated,
"We could never have imagined that we would be recognised in this way – the first female group to be given their very own coin… what a moment for girl power."
Context within Music Legends Series
The Spice Girls join other iconic artists featured in the Royal Mint's ongoing music legends coin series, including Freddie Mercury, Sir Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, Dame Shirley Bassey, and Sir Paul McCartney.
