Unexpected Gig by Kingfishr Delights Londonderry Crowd

An unplanned pub performance by the acclaimed Irish band Kingfishr has been hailed as an "amazing moment" by Dougie Breslin, the musician who recorded the viral footage of the surprise event.

On Sunday night, Kingfishr captivated patrons at Peadar O'Donnell's pub in Londonderry city centre with a live rendition of their hit song "Killeagh."

Dougie Breslin, a regular Sunday night performer at the Derry venue, captured the spontaneous show on video just before his own scheduled gig.

"I couldn't believe it. We have been playing Peadar's every Sunday night for the past 15 years and were coming up to get ready for our gig at 10:30 – we couldn't get in the door," Breslin recalled.

Limerick-based indie-folk trio Kingfishr, consisting of Eddie Keogh, Eoghan 'McGoo' McGrath, and Eoin 'Fitz' Fitzgibbon, achieved significant success last year by topping the Irish charts three times with their anthemic track "Killeagh."

The song first reached number one in May, returning to the top spot twice more by the end of the year, and was Ireland's most streamed track on Spotify in 2025.

The band's prominence has grown rapidly; their debut album Halcyon also topped the Irish charts. Alongside artists such as CMAT, Kneecap, and Fontaines DC, Kingfishr is regarded as a key contributor to a contemporary Irish musical renaissance.

Rumours and Anticipation Ahead of the Performance

Speaking on BBC Radio Foyle's North West Today programme, Breslin mentioned that rumours circulated about Kingfishr being spotted in Derry earlier that weekend and that they were in town to film a new music video.

As Breslin stood outside the packed pub on Sunday night, he contemplated how to gain entry, navigate the large crowd, and possibly encourage Kingfishr to perform.

Peadar O'Donnell's is one of Derry's most renowned live music venues, regularly hosting numerous local artists.

Just as some local musicians were concluding their sets, Breslin observed through the window that Kingfishr had taken the stage.

"So I just stepped inside the door, had to squeeze in and there's about a hundred phones there. It was amazing," he said.
"You know they are the hottest thing in Ireland at the moment, for them to come to our city and just walk in… they are just so down to earth," Breslin added.

He also managed to take a selfie to send to his grandson, who is a "huge fan," remarking on the unpredictability of who might appear at Peadar's.
