Career and Achievements

3 Doors Down was formed in Mississippi in 1995. Four years later, the band received a Grammy nomination for their breakout hit "Kryptonite." According to the band’s statement, Arnold wrote the song while in math class at the age of 15.

Their debut album, The Better Life, sold over six million copies. The band earned a second Grammy nomination in 2003 for the song "When I’m Gone."

The band highlighted Arnold's influence on rock music, stating that he "helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners."

3 Doors Down released a total of six albums, with their most recent being Us and the Night in 2016. Notable singles include "Loser," "Duck and Run," and "Be Like That," which was featured on the soundtrack of the 2001 film American Pie 2.

Reflections on His Career

While promoting their fifth album, Time of My Life, Arnold expressed gratitude for his career in music. In a 2011 interview with the Associated Press, he said,

"If you do something as long as we’ve done it, you can’t help but get better at it, you know?"

In 2017, 3 Doors Down performed at the first inauguration concert of then-President Donald Trump.

Health and Final Months

Arnold announced his diagnosis of clear cell renal carcinoma in May of the previous year, revealing that the cancer had metastasized to his lungs. Due to his illness, the band was compelled to cancel their summer tour.

In their statement following his death, the band remarked on Arnold's lasting impact, saying,

"His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on."
