Michael Sheen Announced as New Host of House of Games
Welsh actor Michael Sheen has been confirmed as the new presenter for the upcoming series of the BBC quiz show House of Games.
This announcement comes after Richard Osman decided to step down from hosting the series, which he has presented for the past nine years.
Making his debut as a quiz show host, Newport-born Sheen will lead 100 episodes scheduled to air later this year.
Sheen expressed his enthusiasm for joining the show, noting the challenge ahead.
"Quite literally very large shoes to fill but as a huge fan of the show I'm incredibly excited to be able to move into the House and at long last see my silhouette on a fondue set."
The format of the series features four celebrities competing against each other to test their general knowledge.
Richard Osman's Farewell and Support
On Instagram, Osman shared his excitement about handing over the hosting duties to Sheen and humorously promised to prepare the set for his successor.
"Beyond thrilled to be handing the #HouseOfGames keys over to the one and only Michael Sheen. I promise to put the hoover round before he arrives.
Best of luck Michael, you're such a great choice, and I know you, and the viewers, will have an amazing time."
BBC's Perspective on Sheen's Appointment
Caroline O'Neill, BBC commissioning executive, welcomed Sheen to the role, highlighting his qualities.
"We're delighted to have Michael Sheen stepping into the House of Games.
His charisma and passion for playfulness will be a joy for audiences and we've no doubt he'll relish throwing himself into a fiercely fought Answer Smash."
Michael Sheen's Upcoming Projects
Earlier this year, it was announced that Sheen will also present a BBC investigative series focusing on chemical contamination in Wales.
Based on the Radio 4 podcast titled Buried, the series will feature the Port Talbot native exploring allegations of chemical contamination in south Wales, near his hometown.
While Sheen is primarily known for his acting career, he has previously presented documentaries addressing the care system as well as issues related to high-interest debt and credit.
