Conversion Plans Approved for Historic Church
Plans to convert an 18th Century church located next to a graveyard into a three-bedroom home have received approval.
Kirkpatrick Juxta Parish Church is situated approximately one mile (1.6 km) south of the village of Beattock in Dumfries and Galloway.
The category B-listed building, constructed in the late 1790s, was placed on the market by the Church of Scotland last year as it was no longer required for religious use.

The new owners submitted plans to Dumfries and Galloway Council to transform the church into a residential property, and these plans have now been granted approval.
Council Report Highlights Preservation Efforts
A council report emphasized that the conversion would preserve the listed building in line with national policy.
"The proposed alterations will involve minimal alterations to the existing external structure and the internal alterations are respectfully designed to facilitate the change of use of the property,"
"The proposed works to the building would respect the appearance, character and architectural features which contribute to its listing."
The report further stated that the plans would not "overwhelm or otherwise damage its original character."
Property Details and Market Information
The property, along with some surrounding land, was placed on the market in 2025 with offers invited over £110,000.
Design Statement and Conversion Objectives
A design statement accompanying the plans indicated that the goal of the conversion is to create a living space that is "respectful of the unique history and detailing of the architecture" while providing rooms "appropriate for modern-day living."
