US Firm Brings Major Investment to Swansea City
Swansea City has entered into a strategic partnership with Shamrock Capital, a prominent Los Angeles-based investment firm founded by the Disney family. Shamrock Capital, which once managed Taylor Swift's music catalogue, has committed significant capital to the Championship club.
The investment fund currently manages assets valued at $7.4 billion (£5.5 billion), spanning various sectors including media and sports. Swansea City has not disclosed the exact size or nature of the investment but has clarified that Shamrock Capital will not acquire any ownership shares in the club.
The Swans already have several notable minority co-owners, including American billionaire Martha Stewart, rap artist Snoop Dogg, and Luka Modric, the Croatian World Cup captain.
In November 2024, US businessmen Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen acquired a controlling stake in Swansea City. They described the partnership with Shamrock Capital as "a highly productive relationship" that will leverage Shamrock's commercial expertise.
"Shamrock is an established investor, playing a central part in the growth of numerous companies and brands globally for nearly half a century," they said in a statement.
"Their involvement with Swansea City can assist the club in achieving its strategic business goals, while their expertise and knowledge within media, entertainment and sports sectors will be invaluable."
Background on Shamrock Capital and Swansea's Ownership
Shamrock Capital was established in 1978 by Roy E Disney, nephew of Walt Disney, as the Disney family's personal investment vehicle. The firm recently attracted media attention for acquiring Taylor Swift's back catalogue from her former manager before selling it back to the artist.
Regarding the partnership, Shamrock partners Jason Sklar and Patrick Russo stated:
"We have followed Swansea City's trajectory closely and are proud to partner with the club at this stage of its growth."
"Swansea is a club with a rich history and a passionate community behind it, and we believe it is well-positioned to build on its commercial momentum and growing global profile."
