Announcement of First Live Concert in Over 15 Years

The singer Duffy has announced that she will hold a special night in London this July.

Warning: This story contains material that may cause distress, including details of sexual assault, kidnapping, and suicidal thoughts.

The Welsh singer revealed she will perform her first concert in more than 15 years after disclosing that sexual assault and kidnapping forced her withdrawal from public life.

On social media, Duffy stated she would hold a 'small secret gig' and perform new songs on the evening of 5 July in London.

Career Highlights and Recent Documentary

Duffy rose to prominence in 2008 with her debut album Rockferry, earning three BRIT Awards, a Grammy Award, and an Ivor Novello Award.

In March, the singer announced that her only major interview in the past 15 years would be for a new Disney+ documentary, in which she discusses the trauma that led to her long absence from the music industry.

Background and Early Life

Aimée Anne Duffy was raised in Gwynedd and Pembrokeshire before becoming an overnight sensation with her single "Mercy" and the album Rockferry, which became the UK's best-selling album in 2008.

However, after releasing her second album and announcing another was forthcoming, she disappeared, leaving fans and the music industry wondering about her absence.

Revelations About Assault and Kidnapping

Nearly a decade later, in 2020, Duffy revealed details of the assault in an Instagram post that has since been deleted.

Months later, she shared personal details on her website describing how she was unknowingly drugged during a birthday meal and taken abroad where she was abused.

She was held captive for four weeks before managing to escape from her abuser, who has not been publicly identified.

Duffy stated that "no one at all" knew about the assault, which left her with suicidal thoughts.

Upcoming Documentary and Public Appearance

Duffy will share her experience of abuse in a new documentary program.

On Friday, she announced on her Instagram account that she would hold a gig by vote for her supporters.

"I'm doing a secret gig in London on the 5th of July, and I would love to see some of you there," she said.

"It's a small venue, so we can only choose a few, but I'm really looking forward to it — I'll be singing some new songs."

In May, Duffy posted a black-and-white image from a recording studio on Instagram, writing:

"If only I could find the right words to explain how much I have missed you all. I'm working on coming back to you."
