Welsh Singer Bonnie Tyler Passes Away at 75
Bonnie Tyler, the internationally renowned Welsh singer, has died at the age of 75. Born in Skewen, Neath Port Talbot, she rose to fame in the 1980s with the hit song Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Tyler was rushed to hospital in Portugal in May for emergency surgery and was subsequently placed in a coma to aid her recovery. In June, a spokesperson confirmed that she had emerged from the coma but remained in intensive care. A statement later announced that she had died in the Portuguese hospital due to her illness.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Born Gaynor Hopkins, she began singing at the age of 17. Her rise to stardom was gradual rather than overnight. She was born in a council house in Skewen and initially performed in clubs around Swansea.
Her talent was discovered by Roger Bell in a Swansea club, leading to the release of her first single, Lost in France, in 1977.

That same year, her single It's a Heartache reached number four on the UK singles chart and number three on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Breakthrough with Total Eclipse of the Heart
Her life changed dramatically with the release of Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983.

The original version of the song was seven minutes long, but it reached the top of the charts with a four-minute radio edit, gaining attention far beyond the clubs of Swansea.
The song topped the UK charts for two weeks and the US charts for four weeks.
"I never get tired of singing," she recently told the BBC.
Career Highlights and Honors
Tyler continued to sing throughout her life, releasing numerous hits including Here She Comes, Holding Out for a Hero, Sitting on the Edge of the Ocean, If You Were a Woman, and Faster Than the Speed of Night.
In 2013, she represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Believe in Me.
She was honored with an MBE in 2022 for her services to music and was nominated three times for a Grammy Award, although she never won.
Legacy and Final Years
Tyler never retired from performing and had a series of tour dates scheduled for this year across several European countries.
Her death marks the loss of a significant figure in the music industry, remembered for her distinctive voice and enduring hits.
