Anthony Hopkins Shares Poetic Tribute to Wales
Oscar-winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins has posted a video of himself reciting poetry from the "green and golden land" of Wales as he returns to his homeland for a new film project.
Accompanied by the sounds of birds, the Port Talbot-born actor recited lines from the first and second verses of Fern Hill, a poem by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, during his visit back to Wales.
Originally published in 1945, the poem reflects on the passage of time and draws from Thomas' childhood memories on his aunt's farm.
Connection to New Film Project
The video appears to reference the 88-year-old Sir Anthony's upcoming project, which involves filming a movie based on a short story by Dylan Thomas set in the Welsh countryside.
Sharing the video with his social media followers, Sir Anthony wrote:
Sunday greetings from Wales, the green and golden land of Dylan Thomas.
The phrase "green and golden" is drawn from the poem and symbolizes the speaker's joy in being surrounded by nature.
Details of the Upcoming Film
The two-time Oscar winner's new film, A Visit To Grandpa's, tells the story of a young boy sent to spend a summer with his eccentric grandfather on a Welsh farm, where he encounters unexpected adventures.
Speaking to Deadline about the project, Sir Anthony stated:
This is a powerful and profoundly beautiful story, one that allows me to return to my Welsh roots while exploring the remarkable vision and prose of Dylan Thomas.
Director DJ Caruso described the project as:
One of the great honours of my directorial life to bring Thomas' story to life alongside Sir Anthony.
Production began in Wales this month and the cast includes Doctor Who actor Aneurin Barnard and fellow Welsh actress Aimee-Ffion Edwards.
