Patrick Muldoon, Actor and Producer, Passes Away at 57

American actor and producer Patrick Muldoon, recognized for his roles in the popular soap opera Days of Our Lives and the film Starship Troopers, has died at the age of 57, according to reports from US media outlets.

Muldoon, who also appeared in the successful 1990s television series Melrose Place, passed away at his home due to a heart attack on Sunday, his manager confirmed to Deadline.

Career Highlights

Muldoon portrayed Austin Reed on NBC's daytime drama Days of Our Lives, playing a boxer involved romantically with Carrie Brady, portrayed by Christie Clark, from 1992 to 1995. He made a brief return to the show in 2011.

In 1997, Muldoon starred in Paul Verhoeven's science fiction action film Starship Troopers, taking on the role of Zander Barcalow, the romantic rival to the lead character played by Casper Van Dien.

Alison Sweeney, who acted alongside Muldoon on Days of Our Lives, expressed her condolences on X, stating:

"This is such heartbreaking news. Pat was a rare kind of person - brilliantly talented, endlessly kind and generous in spirit."
"I was so lucky to have worked with him when I first started at Days, he made me feel at ease right away. He brought his unique charm and humour to work every day. A truly gifted guy, and one who will be profoundly missed."

Dina Meyer, Muldoon's co-star from Starship Troopers, also paid tribute, saying:

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon began his acting career while attending the University of Southern California, where he was also a member of the football team, the Trojans.

After graduating in 1991, he secured a recurring role as Jeffrey Hunter on the high school sitcom Saved By the Bell.

His breakthrough came with Days of Our Lives, followed by a notable role as the antagonist Richard Hart on Melrose Place for three seasons between 1995 and 1996, before transitioning to film.

Work Beyond Acting

In addition to his on-screen work, Muldoon was involved in music, performing with his band The Sleeping Masses. He also worked behind the scenes as a producer on films including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, and Marlowe.

He was slated to produce the upcoming feature Kockroach, starring Chris Hemsworth.

Muldoon's final major on-screen role will be in the forthcoming action-crime thriller Dirty Hands, where he stars opposite Denise Richards, another co-star from Starship Troopers.

Personal Life and Survivors

Patrick Muldoon is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr; his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa; as well as his niece Halo and nephew Arrow Zappa.
