Wales and Republic of Ireland Advance at World Cup of Darts
Jonny Clayton and Nick Kenny are aiming to secure a third World Cup of Darts title for Wales.
The Welsh duo, Jonny Clayton and Nick Kenny, maintained their strong performance at the World Cup of Darts with a commanding victory over Thailand in Group C, held in Frankfurt, Germany.
After entering the competition through group qualifying due to Gerwyn Price's withdrawal, the new Welsh pairing began their campaign with a decisive 4-1 win against Lithuania. They continued their momentum on Friday by defeating Thailand with the same 4-1 scoreline.
By topping their group, the Welsh team secured a Saturday afternoon match at the Eissporthalle against the United States.
Hosts Germany also delivered an impressive performance, winning 4-2 over New Zealand. Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko earned their spot in the second round, where they will face the Czech Republic.
The Republic of Ireland's team, consisting of William O'Connor and Mickey Mansell, claimed first place in Group D by overcoming Gibraltar's Craig Galliano and Justin Hewitt 4-2. This victory sets up their next match against Poland.
The tournament's top-ranked nations, including England, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, enter the competition in the second round.
England's top seeds, Luke Littler and Luke Humphries, will face Spain, while defending champions Northern Ireland's Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney begin their title defense against Belgium.
Scotland's Gary Anderson and Cameron Menzies are matched against Norway, and the Netherlands' Michael van Gerwen and Gian van Veen will take on Sweden.
The round two fixtures are completed by a match between France and Latvia.
