Williams Sisters Receive Wimbledon Doubles Wildcard
Venus and Serena Williams, six-time Wimbledon women's doubles champions, have been granted a wildcard entry for the upcoming Wimbledon women's doubles event.
Neither sister has been included on the list of singles wildcards, although one wildcard spot remains unallocated.
At 44 years old, Serena Williams recently returned to competitive tennis at the Queen's Club tournament last week, marking her first match in four years since what many anticipated would be her final career appearance at the 2022 US Open.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, whose record includes seven Wimbledon singles titles, is currently competing in doubles at the Berlin tournament alongside Karolina Muchova. She will continue her comeback on the Grand Slam stage by partnering with Venus Williams at Wimbledon.
In contrast, former British number one Dan Evans has not been awarded a wildcard for the men's singles main draw. This tournament will be the final event of the 36-year-old's professional career.
Wimbledon is scheduled to commence on Monday, 29 June.
