Sinner Advances Smoothly to Miami Open Semifinals

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner continued his impressive run at the Miami Open by defeating Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 6-2 to secure a place in the semifinals. This victory marks Sinner’s 10th consecutive win and extends his record to 30 consecutive sets won at Masters 1000 events, surpassing Novak Djokovic’s 2016 record.

Throughout the tournament, Sinner has demonstrated remarkable consistency, losing serve only once during a challenging fourth-round match against American Alex Michelsen. In that match, he showed resilience by coming back from 2-5 down in the second set tie-break. His current form has helped him close the gap on world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz, as Sinner aims to reclaim the ATP No. 1 ranking.

Against Tiafoe, the 19th seed, Sinner was dominant from the baseline, serving effectively and using his defensive skills to control the court. He concluded the match by holding serve to love, finishing with an ace down the T. The Italian’s confident and relaxed demeanor reflects his current situation, as he has no ranking points to defend at this tournament following his doping suspension a year ago.

“I have zero [points to defend]. Whatever comes in, it’s positive. Even if you lose next round, nothing happens. So that’s good for me,”

Sinner is set to face either third seed Alexander Zverev or 18th seed Francisco Cerúndolo in the semifinals, maintaining his status as the favorite to win his second Miami Open title.

Fils Stages Remarkable Comeback to Reach First Masters 1000 Semifinal

On Thursday, the Hard Rock Stadium witnessed a thrilling encounter between 28th-seeded Frenchman Arthur Fils and 22nd-seeded American Tommy Paul. Fils overcame four match points to win the match and reach his first Masters 1000 semifinal, where he will face 21st seed Jiri Lehecka on Friday.

At just 21 years old, Fils is regarded as one of the most promising young players of his generation. However, a stress fracture in his back sidelined him for eight months starting in June. Since his return last month, after making significant technical and lifestyle adjustments, Fils has demonstrated his talent by performing at a high level early in his comeback.

During the match, Fils had a match point on Paul’s serve at 6-5 in the third set. Despite trailing 2-6 in the third set tie-break, he rallied with fearless shot-making, strong defense, and determination to secure the victory.

“I just said: ‘OK, look, point by point. If I’m lucky, I’ll get through it. Otherwise, it’s OK, it’s not a big deal.’ He was playing better than me. I just have to fight until the end and see.”
