Flavio Cobolli Advances to Wimbledon Quarter-Finals
Flavio Cobolli has reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2025, extending his stay in south-west London after a notable victory over Alex de Minaur. The Italian's grandfather assisted in finding accommodation following the win.
Cobolli, who reached the French Open final in June, had limited grass-court preparation, playing only one singles match before Wimbledon, which he lost in straight sets to Frances Tiafoe.
Despite this, the ninth seed delivered an impressive performance against Australia's De Minaur, winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to secure his place in the last eight for the second consecutive year.
Post-Match Recovery and Accommodation Challenges
When asked about his recovery plans, Cobolli shared:
"Ice cream and today my dad cooks pasta with tomato and onion.
It's the World Cup so I want to see Spain and Portugal. I hope I can go early to the house but first of all we have to find one.
We have our luggage at the old house and now we have to find [a new] one.
Maybe you guys have a house here in Wimbledon?"
In a news conference following the match, the 24-year-old confirmed that his grandfather had helped secure accommodation for the night.
"My grandfather help us to found a solution for tonight. But we found solution for all the week, I hope,"
he said.
"An Italian family give us all the house here in Wimbledon, so it's really cool.
I will say thanks to them when I see them."
Match Conditions and Next Opponent
The match on Court One was interrupted twice due to medical incidents in the crowd as temperatures reached 31°C on Monday. During one break, Cobolli and De Minaur sat together in the shade, engaging with each other and the crowd.
Cobolli is set to face either Britain's Arthur Fery or former world number three Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the semi-finals.
