Emma Raducanu Withdraws from Miami Open

Emma Raducanu has encountered another major setback as she has withdrawn from the Miami Open because of illness. The British tennis player has been battling a virus since February, which has affected her performance, resulting in early-round losses in Doha and Dubai. She continues to experience post-viral symptoms.

Raducanu was scheduled to compete in Miami as the 24th seed and had received a first-round bye, meaning her first match would have been on Thursday or Friday. However, the 23-year-old chose not to delay her decision regarding participation and withdrew ahead of time.

Previous Miami Performance and Recent Challenges

Last year at the Miami Open, Raducanu achieved one of her best recent results by reaching the quarter-finals of a WTA 1000 event for the first time. This performance contributed to a strong series of results that helped her re-enter the top 30 rankings. Despite this, her progress has significantly stalled in 2026.

The initial three months of the season have been particularly difficult. Throughout her career, Raducanu has faced challenges maintaining fitness. She was sidelined for nearly the entire off-season due to a foot injury and was still limited to static feeding drills just days before her season opener at the United Cup.

Performance and Coaching Situation

Aside from reaching the final of the WTA 250 event in Cluj, Romania, Raducanu has found it difficult to string together consecutive wins. Her record this year stands at 7-7, with her victory over world No. 86 Anastasia Zakharova marking her highest-ranked win to date. Additionally, Raducanu is currently without a permanent coach after parting ways with Francisco Roig following the Australian Open.

Future Plans

Raducanu has also decided not to undertake the demanding journey to Melbourne for Great Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup tie against Australia. Consequently, she will not compete again until the clay-court season begins in April.
