Francisco Cerundolo Triumphs at Queen's Club

Francisco Cerundolo, who played his first grass-court match during Wimbledon qualifying in 2021, achieved the most significant title of his career by mounting a remarkable comeback to defeat Tommy Paul in a thrilling men's singles final at Queen's Club.

The Argentine had never previously secured a title above the ATP 250 level, and it appeared his pursuit would continue when he fell a set and a break behind against Paul.

However, after an intense three hours and two minutes on court—the longest final in Queen's history—and overcoming four missed championship points, Cerundolo celebrated his victory with a dramatic dive to the floor following a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3 win.

"It's not easy to speak right now," an emotional Cerundolo said.
"I want to thank my mum and my dad, they arrived for the last two games."

He further shared with BBC TV:

"My dad has a phobia of planes. Since I was born, I never travelled with him and he never came to watch me in tournaments.
He watched me in Buenos Aires one time a year and at the Davis Cup. They just arrived and I just saw them when I went to celebrate."

Fan Favourite at Queen's Club

Cerundolo, a crowd favourite at the iconic Queen's Club throughout the week, impressed spectators in London with his powerful forehand winners and relentless determination.

Four of his five matches extended to deciding sets, resulting in a total of 11 hours and 33 minutes spent on court over six days.

This marks Cerundolo's second grass-court title; he also defeated Paul in the 2023 Eastbourne final.

Tommy Paul's Reaction

Paul, who was the Queen's champion in 2024 but missed the chance to defend his title last year due to an abdominal injury, appeared disappointed as Cerundolo celebrated on the Andy Murray Arena.

"I want to congratulate Francisco and your team. We always seem to have unreal matches and today you were the better player so I am happy for you. Congrats," Paul said.
