Norrie Triumphs in Monte Carlo Opener

Britain's Cameron Norrie commenced his clay-court season successfully by defeating Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-0) in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters.

After a commanding performance in the opening set, Norrie, who had not won a match at this tournament since 2019, encountered difficulties in the second set. He lost his serve three times, including during his final two service games.

The deciding set was closely contested, with Norrie being broken by the world number 58 while serving for the match at 5-4.

However, in the tie-break, world number 24 Norrie — who reclaimed the British number one ranking in March after surpassing Jack Draper — elevated his performance to secure the victory.

The 30-year-old will next face Australian world number six Alex de Minaur, a player he defeated en route to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells last month.
