Wigan Denies Leeds Rhinos Top Table Position
Wigan's Adam Keighran scored the home side's second try in a commanding performance that saw them defeat Leeds Rhinos 24-4 at the Brick Community Stadium.
Tries were scored by Jack Farrimond, Adam Keighran, Noah Hodkinson, and Jake Wardle, with Keighran successfully converting four goals.
Wigan effectively halted the momentum of the in-form Leeds Rhinos, preventing them from claiming the top spot in the Super League standings. A sixth consecutive victory would have placed Leeds ahead of St Helens on points difference.
However, Leeds delivered a disjointed performance on a challenging night against a revitalized Wigan side. This followed Wigan's recent 32-0 Challenge Cup semi-final victory over St Helens, marking a strong return to form with a four-try win.
Under coach Matt Peet, Wigan extended their recovery from a difficult period of four straight Super League defeats in March and April. This victory adds to their recent wins over Bradford and St Helens, increasing the gap from their previous slump.
Wigan established a 16-0 lead by halftime through tries from Farrimond, Keighran, and Hodkinson. Jake Wardle added a fourth try early in the second half, maintaining a comfortable lead and keeping Leeds at bay throughout the match.
Leeds’ sole try came from Maika Sivo, who scored his 18th try of the season during a more competitive second half from the Rhinos. Despite this, Wigan remained firmly in control and never faced a serious threat to their lead.
