Hennessey Ruled Out of Wales Summer Internationals
Centre Louie Hennessey will miss Wales' upcoming summer internationals due to a shoulder injury. The 22-year-old Bath Rugby player sustained the damage during the Champions Cup semi-final against Bordeaux-Begles in early May, which Bath lost 38-26.
Hennessey, who scored a try in that match, was injured while making a tackle on Bordeaux prop Ben Tameifuna. Bath Rugby confirmed that he will now undergo treatment for the shoulder injury.
Born in Cardiff, Hennessey was first called up to the Wales squad in autumn 2025. He has made one Test appearance for Wales, coming off the bench late in the 27-17 Six Nations defeat away to Ireland in March.
Wales' Summer Fixtures and Squad Updates
Wales will begin their summer campaign against the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham on Saturday, 27 June. This will be followed by matches against Fiji, Argentina, and South Africa as part of the new Nations Championship.
Cardiff prop Kieron Assiratti is also a significant doubt for the summer fixtures after suffering a calf injury against the Stormers in the United Rugby Championship. Uncapped Ben Warren is among three other tight-head props selected alongside Dillon Lewis and Sam Wainwright.
Additionally, Tomas Francis is being rested this summer, while Archie Griffin is unavailable after undergoing surgery.
Additional Wales Squad News
There have been six uncapped call-ups to the Wales squad, including players James and Bradley. Meanwhile, Wales captaincy decisions remain pending for Tandy.
Details of the Summer Series
The opening game of Wales' summer series is a double-header against the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham. The men's match will kick off at 14:00 BST, followed by the women's game at 17:00. Both matches are expected to be uncapped.
As this is considered an away game for Wales, the Barbarians have chosen the venue as the "home side." The Principality Stadium in Cardiff is unavailable due to non-rugby events, including a Metallica concert scheduled for Sunday, 28 June.
Following the Barbarians match, Wales will play three away games in the Nations Championship against Fiji, Argentina, and South Africa.
Wales' Nations Championship campaign will open against Fiji at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, 4 July. Although the match is held in Cardiff, it is considered an away game for Wales since Fiji plays its home matches at venues outside their country. This fixture marks the first time the Wales men's national side will play an international match at the home of Cardiff City football club.
Wales will then travel to San Juan to face Argentina on Saturday, 11 July, before heading to Durban to play the Springboks on Saturday, 18 July.
In November, Tandy's side will host Japan, New Zealand, and Australia at Principality Stadium as part of the second half of the Nations Championship.
